Domenick J. Marmorato Monmourh County Realtor Site

I have been busy working on various sites.
Here is the most recent site for Domenick Marmorato -Monmouth County Realtor

Razzle Dazzle Raspberry Smoothie

Lately I can't get enough raspberries they are my current favorite fruit. But they are not in season yet around here so we buy the organic frozen ones from the store.

As a treat for Little Bean and myself I blend up about 1 cup of frozen raspberries with almond milk. Add as much milk to reach the desired thickness and consistency you prefer. If you prefer a sweeter drink add in some agave. Or for a real treat add in some dark chocolate!

Happy New Year

Ah the New Year. Fresh Start. Every year I make tons of promises and I start each year with such good intentions. Of course I am starting this year the same. So if you want to see 365 days of me check out my flickr set. Or if you want to see my art check out this set. Or you can follow it on my tumblr page.
These challenges are fun and I have yet to complete one but who knows maybe this is the year I will remain focussed enough.

Mostly my resolutions involve my body, mind and soul. I am looking to do more yoga practice and to finally achieve a handstand.  Spending less time on the computer. I have been working out and running and I would love to run in a marathon this coming spring or fall. There is a long list of things I would like to complete in 2011 but some of them have been on the list for a few years now. Like learning how to play my accordion for real. I love my accordion and I really should learn how to really play it.

Of course if I have time I will go back to my regular blogging here about things I adore and being a mommy and whatever else comes to my mind. Christmas kept me very busy all of December, in fact we just finished celebrating on 1-2-11. And now I have some freelance projects I need to focus on in my spare time.

Happy New Year I hope this one is a good one.

The Mommy Pages Part VI - Cora

Who is Cora? Cora was a beautiful baby only on this earth for 5 days, she died suddenly and unexpectedly in her mother's arms of an undetected congenital heart defect (CHD) while breastfeeding, but she continues to touch and save lives.

I learned of Cora last December over Twitter. I was heartbroken by her story.  Her mother Kristine has been working endlessly to educate others about CHD so that no other mom should have to learn about CHD from a coroner.  She does this in many ways. On the 30th of each month is Wear Pink for Cora Day it is a day for you to take a moment and do a good deed, it can be a simple deed or a large one. Over the past year Kristine has spread the word of CHD, helped out single moms, ER hospital staff, and breastfeeding moms to name just a few.

A simple non-invasive pulse oximetry test done on your baby before you leave the hospital could save your baby's life so speak up and ask for one. Awareness is key so please learn about CHD and help spread the word.

The following information about CHD comes from Kristine's blog Cora's Story.

Impact of Congenital Heart Disease
  • Congenital Heart Diseases are also known as congenital heart defects. Over 30 known congenital heart defects exist.
  • According to the Children's Heart Foundation, CHD is the Number ONE baby killer.
  • CHD is also the most prevalent birth defect, according to the March of Dimes.
  • About 1 in 100 babies are thought to be born with the birth defect in the United States. Different organizations use a different number.
How do you know if your baby is one of the 1 in 100?
  • Some CHDs are picked up in utero by a regular ultrasound.
  • Others can be picked up by a Level II ultrasound.
  • Some say a fetal echocardiogram should be conducted on every mother and child to test baby hearts.
  • Others want an echocardiogram, test that uses sound waves to get a picture of the heart, for every newborn.
  • Right now, Cora and Kristine lobby for a pulse oximetry test on every baby. This test is cheap, quick, non-invasive and should be standard in newborn screening. A couple of groups are working on making this test standard. In Missouri, Kelly from CHD Babies is working for Chloe's Law, making pulse ox mandatory before discharge.
  • If you're pregnant, use the Earth Mama, Angel Baby birth plan creator, it includes getting the pulse oximetry test for your newborn and reminds you to do so after birth.
  • Some CHDs can't be detected by known methods. So much more research is needed. Spreading awareness leads to more research funding.
What can you do?
  • Until pulse oximetry tests are standard. You can tell mothers and fathers to ask their doctor to run a pulse ox on their newborn between 24 to 48 hours of age.
  • Kristine developed this flyer for pregnant woman, for you to look at and pack in your hospital bag.
  • Spread the word. Awareness means more support for much needed research funding. Awareness means less mothers and fathers will find out about CHD from the coroner.

The Mommy Pages Part VII Nursery Inspiration

I think one of the most inspiring sites when I was pregnant and dreaming about Little Bean's room was Project Nursery. We didn't know where we would be living until I was almost 7 months pregnant but I started dreaming up what type of room I wanted my Little Bean to sleep in. They have a site full of inspiration and a daily blog. I still read the blog for design inspiration.

And here is my woodland nursery. We kept it simple and used varies vinyl stickies from Pottery Barn, Wallies and Graphic Spaces.

Vegan MoFo Out and About in Asbury Park

Asbury Park is one of my very favorite places down the Jersey Shore. We spend so much time there because there is so much to do there.

If you find yourself on the boardwalk in the summer time I recommend you stop at Pop's Garage. The tacos can be easily veganized and they are yummy.  A second Pop's Garage location is opening soon in the Grove in Shrewsbury which is right around the corner from me, finally some good take out in the area!

Also on the boardwalk you can get vegan soy ice cream in Chocolate or Vanilla at either of the ice cream parlors! They of course have sorbets as well.

Over on 4th Ave is Asbury Lanes. Bowling, music, lounge and a snack bar that has vegan snacks too! You need to go there!

Down on Cookman Avenue is a Twisted Tree Cafe that offers an assortment of vegan sandwiches, smoothies, and deserts.

Also on Cookman Avenue in the arcade is my favorite pizza parlor Crust and Crumble which has a large assortment of vegan pizza pies, vegan subs, and vegan entrees! As I said they are my very favorite.

The Yoga Basin has a cafe and juice bar too and of course yoga.

There are some vegan options at some of the other restaurants too and if I missed any that are really noteworthy please let me know.

There are so many great shops in Asbury I am just going to mention my favorites here.

My favorite shopping is in Asbury Park as well some don't miss shops are
Bodega Shoppe on the boardwalk. I am transported somewhere else when I visit this shop. It is my favorite store in the whole world. They have something for everyone on your list.

Back over to Cookman, Organic Style is moving but just over to the next town over Ocean Grove so stop by and see Nancy in her new location the first week of December.

Holdfast has a fantastic collection of records, clothes and vintage finds.

Foolish Ginger is on the main level of the arcade on Cookman and has a beautiful collection of everything!

B Unique clothing is all the way down the other end of Cookman but don't pass it by they have great vintage finds and are totally punk rock.

Check out the exhibit at Parlor Gallery.

There are a bunch of new shops too, like the new art supply shop on Bangs Avenue ReBearth.

I am looking forward to doing all of my holiday shopping in Asbury Park this year.

Sweet Vegan MoFo Part 2 - Pumpkin Banana Blueberry Muffins

As I was baking on Tuesday night I figured I might as well make some muffins for the house and use up some more of the great pumpkin. So I made these Pumpkin Banana Blueberry Muffins!

Here is the recipe adapted from Blue Banana Muffins in How it All Vegan

3 1/2 cups flour
1 cup pumpkin
2 bananas mashed
2 tsp baking powder
2 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp ginger
pinch of allspice
1/2 cup of sugar (I would use a bit less next time)
1/2 cup of oil
2 cups of soy milk
1/2 cup of blueberries
Optional
Flax seeds, wheat germ, pumpkin seeds or other seeds

Preheat oven to 350. Mix up ingredients pour into greased baking cups and cook for about 35-40 minutes. Enjoy!
