News and Bits

It was a busy weekend for me. I managed to relax a bit and run some errands on Saturday. Finally made our own homemade vegan raviolis. They were tasty! Can't wait to make some more. I also got a chance to play with my dehydrator and made some raw cookies and sweet potato fries. I also finally ordered books of the wedding photos!

I am happy to say that I also managed to set up a way to accept credit cards at my upcoming shows.

We were given a huge stack of 12" records mostly disco and dj promotional stuff but some had some great labels and they were all just right for making bracelets!

Sunday I managed to spend working in my studio. I have some new things to share, necklaces., ornaments and of course new bracelets.

Don't forget that this weekend is the Made For You Event in Red Bank

Some New Projects

Here are some new projects I have been working on. I have been trying to find uses for the corks from wine bottles for awhile. I had been donating them here

Wine Cork Recycling
Yemm & Hart Ltd
610 South Chamber Dr
Fredericktown MO 63645

Yemm & Hart is collecting wine cork stoppers with the goal of converting them into a useful self sustaining product - to extend the useful life of this natural resource for decades and to raise awareness of the cork oak tree and its eco-system. At the end of 2007, approximately 3,000 Lbs have been received.

But I recently started experimenting on my own with cork. Here are some of the results.

sick

sick today. I hope to finish up some orders and then lie down awhile, maybe catch up on some blogging and other business from the comfort of my bed. So far I did manage to crank out a new banner design for here and my etsy shop.

I was featured in the 10-31-08 issue of the
Express a free daily from the Washington Post perhaps I am in need of a name change. It seems people misspell it so often. Maybe something simpler... That is something for me to think about.
Here is the page

Meanwhile I have been featured on quite a few blogs recently
Sprig.com

Simply Sentimental the blog

A mention on Vegan Bliss

And a feature in the Vegan Babe News letter

Thanks to everyone for so much support!

My name is Anita. I'm a 31 year old fashion designer from Toronto, Canada. I started my company in April of 2007 after working in and out of the fashion industry for a number of years. I decided to start my own line, because it was something I could do from home as I have 2 young children.

I've been sewing since I was a child. My grandparents used to sew for a living (tailor and seamstress) and it's what inspired me to start. I've been around fabric and sewing machines for as long as I can remember. I've always been interested in fashion and loved making crazy outfits when I was younger. So after high school, I went to college and studied Fashion Design. After college it did take a few years and a few jobs to realize that starting my own line was the right thing to do. Having children and getting older puts things into perspective. I felt that this was the right time. I had always talked/dreamt about it and basically it was now or never.

What inspires me? Nature, music, colour (I usually design with a colour in mind, like right now I'm really into gray and white), fabric, textures, my grandparents (in some way I feel like I'm carrying on the family tradition, and I don't want to sound kooky but I always feel that my grandfather is with me and proud and that really keeps me going and totally inspires me everyday).

Featured Seller Phriendly K8te's Threads

This is the fifth story in my series on featured Etsy sellers I hope you take a moment to check out Kate's shop and that you enjoy her creativity as much as I did.

I'm Katelyn Safford a newly-wed living in New England. I live in a tiny studio apartment which doubles as my sewing area. I have a degree in Art Education, and I am looking for a full time art teaching job. Art and sewing are my two passions!

How Did you get started?

In middle school I was very small and couldn't find "cool" clothes that fit me. I asked my mom to teach me to sew, and I made a bunch of my clothing. I have made lots of things for myself and friends over the years, and recently decided to share my creations with others through joining Etsy!

What Inspires you?

I am very inspired by nature and music. My eyes and ears are always open, looking and listening to everything around me. I find the colors and patterns in nature very inspiring and beautiful.

Eco-Friendly Tip:
I try to use a tote bag at the market instead of taking a plastic bag. I sell a few totes in my shop that are great for this purpose!

I would like to add:
I love custom orders! I love hearing the ideas of others and bringing them to life for them!
