News and Bits

It was a busy weekend for me. I managed to relax a bit and run some errands on Saturday. Finally made our own homemade vegan raviolis. They were tasty! Can't wait to make some more. I also got a chance to play with my dehydrator and made some raw cookies and sweet potato fries. I also finally ordered books of the wedding photos!

I am happy to say that I also managed to set up a way to accept credit cards at my upcoming shows.

We were given a huge stack of 12" records mostly disco and dj promotional stuff but some had some great labels and they were all just right for making bracelets!

Sunday I managed to spend working in my studio. I have some new things to share, necklaces., ornaments and of course new bracelets.

Don't forget that this weekend is the Made For You Event in Red Bank

Some New Projects

Here are some new projects I have been working on. I have been trying to find uses for the corks from wine bottles for awhile. I had been donating them here

Wine Cork Recycling
Yemm & Hart Ltd
610 South Chamber Dr
Fredericktown MO 63645

Yemm & Hart is collecting wine cork stoppers with the goal of converting them into a useful self sustaining product - to extend the useful life of this natural resource for decades and to raise awareness of the cork oak tree and its eco-system. At the end of 2007, approximately 3,000 Lbs have been received.

But I recently started experimenting on my own with cork. Here are some of the results.

Featured Seller Entangles - One of a Kind By Julia

This is the second story on featured Etsy sellers I hope you take a moment to check out Julia's shop and that you enjoy her creativity as much as I did.

I am Julia, Seattle native and UW alumni. Wanted to be a graphic artist then decided I was going to need to eat and pay bills so changed my major to marketing.

I got started with recycling jewelry because people kept giving me their old and broken stuff for collages and mosaics. I felt guilty tearing some of it apart because the components were so beautiful and they were becoming lost mixed in with other pieces and parts.

The Seattle rain inspires me to make things that sparkle (I'm part bird) to brighten up the gray days. Someone turning on a television also inspires me - to get up, leave the room and head to my workbench even if just to make envelopes from old fashion mags.

My only recycling tips would be; 1) Really look at what you're putting in the landfill- REUSE -many things have continued purpose and can be donated to schools, put on Freecycle.com, traded or become an extra income if you seek out the right buyer. 2) Really look at what you're putting in the landfill - BUY the right products and packaging.
